Transportation Cabinet seeks public comments on ‘ Ashland Connector'
Meeting Thursday at Kyova Mall in Boyd County
FLEMINGSBURG , Ky. – Motorists traveling US 60 in Boyd County this week will see message boards reminding them to stop and comment at a Transportation Cabinet public meeting Thursday.
The meeting – 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kyova Mall food court – will focus on a study to determine if there is a need for an improved, or perhaps new, connector route from I-64 into downtown Ashland and determine alternatives on how to build it. Currently, the only direct routes into the city are along US 60 and US 23, both of which are congested and have high crash rates.
The I-64 to US 23 Ashland Connector Study began last year with an evaluation of existing traffic conditions in an area from I-64 at exits 181 and 185 to US 23 on the west side of Ashland from 13 th Street (US 60) to KY 5 at the Greenup County line.
At Thursday's meeting, the public will be able to view maps and data from that area. Area residents, commuters, business-owners and other highway users are urged to attend and offer their ideas on short- or long-term projects to improve mobility between the interstate and downtown.
